Let's Make A Leather Belt for Dad in 5 Steps!

Step 1: Tools and Materials

Let's check what we got from this DIY leather belt kit firstly. Basically, the belt DIY kit has included everything you need like a vegetable tanned leather belt, a solid brass buckle and rivets, a ruler, puncher, pad, sponge and leather slicker. Additionally, we're going to need a hammer, just any kind of hammer or molly will be fine. Following the tutorial video, let's dive into it!

Step 2: Measure Dad's Belt Size

We don't want to make a belt that doesn't fit for our dads. So before we start our projects, let's measure daddy's belt size first. How? Take an old belt or jean and measure from the base of the buckle prong to the hole dad always use, round up if you measure in-between inches. If the belt is too long, don't worry we can fix the problem! Prepare yourself a knife, cut the extra length from the begin (where you set the buckle).

Step 3: Polish the Surface

Before we start polishing, prepare a bowl of water. Get the sponge, dig it into the water and slightly squeeze it. Use the wet sponge slightly wipes the surface of the leather belt, then use the end of the leather burnisher rubs the leather surface. After a while, you can see the beautiful, polished effect on its surface. We can skip this step as well since the vegetable tanned leather will grow patina over time.

Step 4: Polish the Edges

Repeat step 3, we wet the edges and use the burnisher to polish it carefully and with patience!

Step 5: Punch

Get the leather belt, we need to punch notch on this place where we will set the buckle here. Then we assemble the buckle and the small leather piece. Then assemble the belt with the buckle, use the punch mark the hole (make sure it is in the middle of the belt). After that, punch it as harder as you can!

The last step, use a screwdriver to fasten the screw on the belt. If you bought the 3.5 cm wide leather belt, then you need to fasten 3 screws on the belt.

Now we have hand made this leather belt for dad, wrap it and ready to surprise him on Father's Day!
